what's going on...

I'm up late finishing my mom's birthday present. Way tired. Today I came close to finishing the top deck of the kids playhouse. Now, the slide and staircase w/ landing are complete. All I have to do is add the captain's wheel (it is a pirate ship afterall) some siding and pickets and it's complete. This thing has become an act of love and art for me. It's really been enjoyable using the craft I've learned to pay our bills to create something for my kids. The kids have been out of town with my parents, so when we come home tomorrow it will be a surprise. I can't wait. I'll post some photos soon.

Our garden is completely under way. So far, we've planted raspberries, blackberries, cucumbers, squash, watermelon, tomatoes, cilantro, basil, rosemary, and some other herbs I can't recall with starters of strawberries and chili peppers. There must be a raccoon or something in the area because this afternoon we checked on everything and almost all the cucumbers had been pulled out and eaten. Bummer. Brooke got something off the shelf at the store that is non-toxic yet repels critters. Hope it works.

We've also started brewing our own beer. Matt Gonzales is on his way to becoming a master brewer. I'm getting the benefit of just being his friend and housemate. I do have to build something to store all of the new brewing equipment he was able to track down for super cheap. Who knows, a year from now you may come over to our place and walk away with a few bottles of home brewed beer and a box full of vegetables. I'll let you know how the first batch comes out.

Bye for now.
