Compromise is not a bad word. Every healthy organization or relationship finds the middle ground–the place where all parties can thrive. It does not mean a lack of conviction. It means we see the other as human and extend the dignity to them we want ourselves. It takes a stronger organization or individual to find common ground.

We don't want to compromise because we–generally speaking of Americans here–are afraid. We're afraid of the past and the future. We're afraid of scarcity and the unknown.

Fear rarely leads to good decision making. If your decisions are based on what you're afraid of, reconsider.
