I still believe in church planting

Tomorrow evening, Brooke and our kids will finally be coming home! They stayed in San Diego for vacation a week longer than I did. I can not wait to see them! The bittersweet reality is that I'll be leaving early the next morning, heading to Minneapolis for the Church Planters Academy. I'm not looking forward to being away from my family even longer. But at the same time, I'm really excited about this opportunity to further the conversation about fresh expressions of Christian community in our Diocese.

Some tend to think that established Christian institutions neither need or want to plant new faith communities. I would argue that we have to. If done correctly, new expressions can bring life to the whole (I've talked about that here). And I think we need communities of various shapes, sizes and longevity (talked about that here). So, I'm looking forward to attending this event, connecting with some folks I haven't seen in a long time and getting to know better the near 20 folks were taking from our Diocese to explore this.

Below is a clip with Doug Pagitt of Solomon's Porch–where we'll be meeting–and Bruce Reyes-Chow talking about the academy and some pertinent subjects regarding church planting. I respect these two guys, even from a distance, and look forward to learning from them and others.

Maybe I'll see you there?!
