Commonplace in Review

I haven't slept well for a few weeks. We held our first Commonplace gathering last night at St. Margaret's in DC. For weeks, I've been waking up in the early hours of the morning, fretting and praying about this gathering. I tend to come across as laid back and calm about all things. But since the spring, I've known we needed to do something like this. The longer it took to pull it together, the more anxious I was getting.

There was a lot we hoped for this event. This post offers a good description of those hopes. We also had a few hunches we wanted to follow through with. One of those hunches was that art and stories can communicate just as much–if not more–than information. Another was that we benefit by learning from each other and are inspired by knowing there are others "like us" out there as opposed to simply having an expert, or a figurehead. Lastly, we had a hunch that we could be faithful to the Episcopal tradition while exploring new genres of communication, art and musical genre.

I think we did that last night. It wasn't perfect. But it was beautiful! And last night, I slept like a baby!

If you were unable to join us, you can check out my FB page and the Commonplace FB event page to see some pics folks snapped of the evening.

Whether or not you were able to join us last night, I would love to get some feedback! If you would, please consider filling out this survey.
