Welcome

Hi there! I'm Jason Evans. Thanks for stopping by.

After almost a decade living away from San Diego, my family and I are now back in our hometown where I serve as Canon for Mission in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego. In this role, I oversee congregational revitalization, church planting, resource development, Christian formation, and our peace and justice ministries. I continue teaching mission theory and practice at General Theological Seminary of New York and the School for Ministry here in the Diocese of San Diego.

It's good to be home.

I studied urban ministry at Hesston College and received a Master of Arts in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. My work in establishing missional communities has been profiled in books such as Jim and Casper Go To ChurchStreet CrossersEmerging Churches and Emerging Worship.

I served on the staff of a church plant in San Diego, CA before my wife and I partnered with others to start missional communitiesChristian communities that exist for those who cannot, or will not, participate in a traditional church. After starting several communities, serving on the staff of two churches, and consulting several others as they started new faith communities in Southern California, our family moved to Washington, DC where I served the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. We became members of the Episcopal Church during our time in DC.

For the five years before coming back to California, my family and I lived in Houston, TX where I worked for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas helping others start new Christian communities and teach mission theory and practice at Iona Center at Seminary of the Southwest and Iona School for Ministry.

For several years, I also hosted the podcast A New Thing and co-hosted The Shape of A New Thing to Come.

My wife and I are high school sweethearts with three amazing kids. I love a good record, a good book and a good cup of coffee. Chips and salsa are my kryptonite.
