Guiding Principles for Formation in Missional Communities

Across the Diocese of Texas, there are now close to 80 missional communities. These are spiritual and relational outposts for those that cannot, or will not, participate in a traditional expression. Due to these communities people that would not otherwise be participating in a Christian life are being formed as followers of Jesus. Several months ago, we discussed the guiding principles for forming disciples in these communities with several of those leaders that were early founders of missional communities in this Diocese. Here are the principles most commonly shared across communities:

  • Easily Accessible
  • Both Ancient and Contemporary
  • Relational
  • Both Personal and Collective
  • Scripture-based
  • Focus on Small Groups
  • Teach Episcopal Identity

Our diocesan formation office compiled a list of resources to go along with each of these. Take a look and let me know if you have other recommendations.
