2018 Year End Music List

Other Years: 2017201620152014, 2013, 2012201120102009, 2008, 2007.
Every year I do a year-end, top ten music list. Here are my favorite 2018 music releases for you in no particular order ...

1) Turnstile - Time and Space: Dan So kept telling me to listen and I finally did. Best genre-bending hardcore album since Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come.

2) War on Women - Capture the Flag: In your face and unrelenting.

3) Pusha T - Daytona: Favorite hip hop release of the year.

4) F@#%ed Up - Dose Your Dreams: They continue to push the boundaries of what is punk rock and it's wonderful once again.

5) Gouge AwayBurnt Sugar: Brutal production and music with some well-executed melodic pieces mixed in.

6) Sons of Kemet - Your Queen is a Reptile: I was so into this jazz album in 2018 ... is this a sign that I'm getting old?

7) FiddleheadSpringtime and Blind: I have such a weakness for this kind of punk rock. Sounds like they should come from Florida ... but they're from Boston.

8) Idles - Joy is an Act of Resistance: Truly loved finding this album in 2018. Joy ... no kidding!

9) Mid-Air Thief - Crumbling: Weird and beautiful. Reminds me of earlier Radiohead.

10) Red Hare - Little Acts of Destruction: Fun thing about this album is that you hear a touch of Jason Farrell's Blue Tip days.

Honorable Mentions: Pig Destroyer, Bixiga 70David Byrne, Daughters, Super Unison and Lonely Leary.

It's a shame that there are not any local Houston artists on this list. Brooke and I were talking about making a new year's resolution to make it out to more shows this year.
